New developments at Cape Towns R14 billion green village

Category Cape Town News

Cape Town’s new R14 billion “car-free” Blue Rock Village is getting two new features in the form of the Santa Luzia Lifestyle centre and the 5-star Blue Rock Hotel and Conferencing centre.

The Blue Rock Village is a R14 billion upgrade to the current Blue Rock Resort located in Somerset West, in Cape Town, aimed at becoming South Africa’s ‘greenest’ city – the first with a six-star green rating from the Green Building Council South Africa.

The village will be ‘car-free’ with all parking to be underground, while apartments will use energy efficient appliances; LED lighting; water-management systems from showers to irrigation; solar water-heating systems and self-generated solar power.

The Santa Luzia Lifestyle Centre will be a multi-functional centre boasting 14 000 square metres of floor space in a 7 story building.

It will offer 10 000 square metres of street  exhibition space, designed for hosting conferences, exhibitions, and interactive events such as local produce markets, product launches, and concerts or music festivals.

The Blue Rock Hotel and conferencing centre is envisioned to have about 150 luxury rooms, 30 condominiums, and conference capacity for over 500 delegates. It will also include high-end restaurants, a bar and lounge areas.

The full Blue Rock Village development will ultimately comprise 1,000 luxury apartments to be built on 40 hectares of land. Units start from €200 000 – R3.2 million, at the current exchange rate.
